Casey Weldon has become one the most interesting American contemporary artists doing brightly-coloured surrealist paintings today. Graduating from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, he operated out of studios in Las Vegas, then relocating to New York, onto California, and now Portland where he works as a full time artist.

His fine art, imbued with a sumptuous illustrative quality, evoke a sense of humour, nostalgia, fantasy and even melancholy within the viewer. Two main subjects of his work include highly detailed, multi-eyed cats as well as the mystical women who usually find themselves as the focal point of his artworks.

Weldon has exhibited and sold his work in galleries across the United States and his pieces now reside in collections across the world.

You have a unique way of using colors that seem neon and creating a glowing illumination from within the work?

I’ve always had trouble keeping my work’s brightness on the level. Everything has always naturally skewed towards the darker side. To offset it, I started including small and super bright light sources. It’s a lot of fun inventing what the effects of a bright blue light will have under a setting red sun.
